BRIEF
You are invited to enter the Reece Bathroom Innovation Award – explore the unlimited
possibilities of tapware design along with the accessories that complement the core bathroom
design.
The brief for this year is “tap–ware” – either mixer or 3 piece tap set. Students can submit matching
shower mixers or wall tap assemblies and bathroom accessories to complement the range as part of their
entry however the judges will be focusing on the basin mixer during the judging process.
Recent research indicates that Australians now consider tapware the preferred feature product
of the bathroom, along with storage being one of the most important considerations in
bathroom planning.
Using tapware as the centerpiece your design should be innovative and enhance the bathroom
experience. The innovative aspects of the design can take many forms – from aesthetic,
functional or sustainable, through to the type of material or technological integration
demonstrated.
Competition judging criteria:
- Aesthetic merit – 30%
The design will be judged on its aesthetic beauty and the effective integration of the
various design elements. The interesting applications of materials will also be considered.
- Functionality – 30%
Designs will be scored on ergonomics and utility. Judging will be weighted in favour of
designs that solve a real user problem in a simple and clever way.
- Viability of manufacture – 20%
The proposed product must have realistic potential to be manufactured using commercial
methods. Judging will consider the cost effectiveness of production using commonly
available materials.
- Innovation – 20%
Each submission will be evaluated for its innovative qualities such as the application of
technology, the application of new materials or the integration of sustainability features.
For entries including additional accessories the weighting will be 30% and 70% for the
tapware.
